Strong university partnership: Lucerne meets Heidelberg for innovation!

On February 14, 2025, a delegation from the Lucerne University of Education visited the Heidelberg University of Education. This partnership, which has been established over many years, is particularly strengthened by the joint binational doctoral program EFFORT (Empirical Didactic Research & Transfer: Heidelberg-Luzern), which is supported by the organization “swissuniversities”. With the aim of promoting young scientists, the program includes numerous research projects and enables active mobility of students and employees. According to the Heidelberg University of Education, the purpose of the trip was also to get to know the two rectors, Prof. Dr. Karin Vach (Heidelberg) and Prof. Dr. Kathrin Krammer (Luzern), to promote and deepen cooperation, how ph-heidelberg.de reported.

The discussions during the visit revolved around the continuation of the EFFORT doctoral program and the strategic priorities of the two universities. Particular attention was paid to the topics of sustainability, which play a central role at both institutions. To support this dialogue, the participants were guided through various PH Heidelberg facilities, such as the test center, the media center and the maker space.

International dimension of higher education

This type of collaboration is not only important for the universities involved, but also reflects a broader trend that the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is promoting. International cooperation was supported in 2022 with a total budget of 1.335 billion euros. In total, this resulted in 2,278 international projects that are intended to strengthen innovation capacity in Germany and Europe. The BMBF pursues the goals of a future strategy that is based on the principles of human dignity, fundamental rights and democracy bmbf.de explained.

In times of increasing pressure for innovation and transformation, the BMBF emphasizes the need for international cooperation in education, science and research. These measures are crucial in order to overcome global challenges and promote exchange between academics and students in an international context.
