Future of food: New food festival in Stuttgart inspires!
On March 5, 2025, a press tour for the 2nd New Food Festival Stuttgart took place at the University of Hohenheim. This event, which will be held from March 4th to 6th, 2025 under the motto “Food System (R)Evolution”, deals with the change in the food system in Germany and beyond. The main organizer, the crowdfoods association, developed an exciting program in collaboration with the economic development agency of the state capital Stuttgart, the Economic Development Region Stuttgart GmbH and the University of Hohenheim that highlighted innovative approaches to food production in these times of crisis.
The central themes of the festival include new protein sources, the use of food printing and the integration of artificial intelligence into agricultural technology. The event responds to current challenges such as supply bottlenecks, crop failures and changing consumer behavior, which question the foundations of modern food systems.
Program and highlights of the festival
The press tour began at 10:30 a.m. in the biology building (BIO I) at the University of Hohenheim. The journalists had the opportunity to take a tour of the experimental technology, visit startup stands and take part in demonstrations and live cooking events. Registration for this special tour was possible via the email address presse@uni-hohenheim.de, with free press tickets for the entire festival available with the code “Presse-NFFS25-100”.
During the festival, the organizers can expect a variety of innovations and expert opinions. The conference and trade fair on March 5th and 6th will focus on the agriculture and food industry as well as gastronomy and retail. A total of up to 80 exhibitors and 500 participants have registered to present their ideas and products.
Background on food systems
The themes of the New Food Festival are in line with the current global challenges in nutrition. “Global food systems are changing,” reports Das Federal Environment Agency. Particular attention is paid to increasing urbanization, which brings both opportunities and challenges for resource use.
The coexistence of urban and rural areas, especially with regard to food production and consumption, is crucial for the design of sustainable food systems. This includes both ecological and socio-economic aspects of spatial decoupling and illuminates the political discourses on regional food policy.
The New Food Festival Stuttgart not only offers a platform for new ideas, but also contributes to the urgent discussion about the future of nutrition and the need for sustainable practices. The general public is invited to learn about the progress and opportunities in this rapidly changing area and to actively participate in the discussion.
