On September 19, 2025, a special promotion ceremony took place at the roll call area of the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBw M). 44 Air Force soldiers were appointed lieutenants, a crucial step in their military careers. The certificates were impressively handed over from the air by four paratroopers from the Altenstadt airborne/air transport school.
Colonel Matthias Henkelmann, who led the promotion roll call, echoed Defense Minister Boris Pistorius' statement by emphasizing the responsibility and role of the new officers in the future of the armed forces. The importance of youth and dynamism in the ranks of the Bundeswehr is increasingly being recognized.
Guest of honor Charlotte Knobloch
A special highlight of the ceremony was the presence of Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria. Knobloch, a Holocaust survivor, spoke powerfully about the importance of serving in the Bundeswehr and the imperative to defend freedom and democracy. This message resonated strongly in the current political landscape.
On this day, Prof. Karl-Heinz Renner, Vice President of UniBw M, praised the soldiers' decision to take responsibility for freedom, security and democracy. His appeal was clear: These young people are the future of the Bundeswehr and have a special responsibility.
Musical accompaniment and special presentations
The festive setting was accompanied by music from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Mountain Music Corps. A research zeppelin was also presented, which hovered over the roll call area and underlined the importance of modern technology in military training.
After the ceremony, the new lieutenants had the opportunity to celebrate with their loved ones. This not only illustrated their personal success, but also the support they receive on their way to becoming an officer and symbolized the solidarity within the Bundeswehr family.
