On January 30, 2025, the University Council passed the University of Passau Prof. Sigmund Gottlieb after two terms in office. Gottlieb, born on October 21, 1951 in Nuremberg, was editor-in-chief of Bavarian Television from 1995 to 2017 and a defining figure in German journalism.
Looking back, he leaves an outstanding balance. In addition to his journalistic work, he was also involved in the academic world. He initiated the Gottlieb Kenntemich scholarship in 1999, which supports economics students from Eastern and East Central European universities. For his commitment, Gottlieb was awarded the honorary senatorship of the University of Passau.

Taking over from Dr. Karl Benedict Baron von Moreau
Gottlieb's successor was Dr. Karl Benedikt Freiherr von Moreau was appointed to the University Council. Born in Munich in 1959, he brought with him a wealth of experience. Von Moreau studied medicine in various cities, including Munich and Yale, and has practiced general medicine since 1999. He is also actively involved in local politics and is second chairman of the European Weeks Passau Festival.
The appointment of Dr. von Moreau was led by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Bartosch, President of the University of Passau, expressed optimism about his future role on the University Council. The combination of his medical and community experiences could provide new impetus for the university.
