Certificate presentation at the University of Passau: Highest honor for student parents!
On Thursday, June 5th, the ceremonial presentation of certificates for 28 graduates of the master's degree program “Caritas Science and Value-Oriented Management” took place at the University of Passau. This event, which began with an ecumenical service, not only recognized academic achievements but also spotlighted the students' personal development.
Kristina Mayer, who gave a traditional speech, compared the study path to a pilgrimage. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of family support, friends, lecturers and staff, who have made a significant contribution to the compatibility of studies, work and family. Two graduates, Elena Wimmer and Simone Unverricht, were awarded the “Studying with Children Prize” for their outstanding achievements.
Insight into the graduation ceremony
The previous Friday, 21 graduates received their graduation certificates in St. Nikola Church. Dean Jochen Wilde and Prof. Dr. Christian Handschuh emphasized that this qualification is much more than a simple certificate. It is a sign of the outstanding achievements and commitment of the students who, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, have achieved this goal.
The ceremonial handover was accompanied musically by the band “Stormy Hill Hot Three”, which added to the festive atmosphere. Viktoria Helmö reflected on the extraordinary experiences of studying during the Corona crisis, while Jessica Trebing presented personal summaries in a specially produced video.
Caritas Science at the University of Passau
The master’s program “Caritas Science and Value-Oriented Management” at the University of Passau is characterized by four different module areas. These modules offer a comprehensive insight into the theoretical and practical aspects of Caritas science.
| Module area | Content |
|---|---|
| A: Think and apply Caritas | Examination of Christian-ecumenical approaches to charitable action. |
| B: Lead organizations in a value-oriented manner | Value-oriented management and social economic management. |
| C: Lead people in a value-oriented manner | Spiritual personality development and professional conversation. |
| D: Caritas scientific research | Networking theory and practice as well as preparation for the master's thesis. |
This part-time course of study, in turn, qualifies graduates for a variety of tasks in non-profit organizations, public administrations and educational institutions. Over 2.5 million people in Germany already work voluntarily or full-time in Diakonie and Caritas, which speaks for the relevance of the course. In addition, the international network in over 160 countries provides graduates with valuable contacts and perspectives.
In this way, the importance of the master's degree becomes clear not only in academic training, but also in the practical implementation of charitable work areas. Prof. Dr. Bernhard Bleyer rightly points out the excellent reputation of Passau's Caritas Science in the welfare sector, which is also reflected in the careers of many alumni.
The University of Passau thus remains a central center for the training of future specialists in the field of Caritas and value-oriented management who are ready to take on responsibility in the face of the challenges in the social economy.
