DraCor Summit 2025: Experience digital drama research up close in Berlin!

The “Drama Corpora Project” (DraCor) has established itself as a central resource for research into European drama literature. It offers over 4,000 plays in 22 languages available free of charge and is particularly aimed at researchers in the digital humanities who want to analyze and study these dramas. As the Free University of Berlin reported, the “DraCor Summit 2025” will take place in Berlin from September 1st to 5th, 2025. The conference promises a multifaceted program that offers numerous opportunities to deepen and discuss current research topics.

The event is organized by the Professorship for Digital Humanities at the Free University of Berlin and the Network for Digital Humanities at the University of Potsdam. Attractive aspects of the summit are the workshops, lectures and hackathon sessions, which are aimed at researchers in the fields of computational literary studies and cultural analytics. Interested parties can register without registration fees, and travel grants for unfunded scientists are available, as the information on DraCor.org note.

Diverse program and international exchange

The Summit offers an extensive program ranging from practical training sessions to challenging discussion sessions. Particularly noteworthy is the keynote speech by Clarisse Bardiot, a renowned theater scholar, who will present innovative workflows in digital performance research.

The agenda is as follows:

  • Montag, 1. September 2025: DraCorOS-Trainingssessions und offizielle Eröffnung.
  • Dienstag, 2. September 2025: Erste DraCor Corpora Konferenz mit 18 Präsentationen zu Herausforderungen in der Corpora-Entwicklung.
  • Mittwoch, 3. September 2025: Workshop zur computergestützten Drama-Analyse.
  • Donnerstag, 4. September 2025: DraCor Barcamp, eine offene, teilnehmergesteuerte Unkonferenz.
  • Freitag, 5. September 2025: Co-Working-Möglichkeiten zur Weiterverfolgung von Ideen.

What is particularly noteworthy is that over 50 scientific publications based on DraCor data have been published worldwide since the beginning of 2024. This underlines the relevance of the project in the academic landscape and its role as a pioneer of an open science infrastructure. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to provide childcare during the summit, another step towards promoting inclusion in science.

The support of the EU project “DraCorOS – Fostering Open Science in Digital Humanities” and the Cluster of Excellence “Temporal Communities” at the Free University of Berlin highlights the shared responsibility to promote innovative approaches in the research and development landscape of digital humanities. The summit will not only strengthen collaboration within the community, but also represent a further step in the digital investigation of dramas and their cultural significance.
