Neighborhood festival in Berlin: Experience diversity for the whole family!
On July 5, 2025, ESMT Berlin is planning a neighborhood festival in the institution's garden, which will appeal to the whole family with a diverse program. Loud ESMT Berlin The event offers a variety of offerings, ranging from culinary delights to entertainment programs.
A highlight are the food trucks that serve international specialties. For younger guests there is also a children's area with a bouncy castle, magic shows, face painting and airbrush tattoos. Live music on the garden stage creates a festive atmosphere, while guided tours of the PETRI Berlin archaeological trail are available.
Open space for exchange
The aim of the event is to create an open space for exchange and encounters. The focus is on central questions about the future of Berlin's city center as well as the influence of science, culture and city administration on the development of the southern Spree island. These issues are particularly relevant in the context of the history of the area, which formed geologically in the Pleistocene and is now part of the Warsaw-Berlin glacial valley Spree island highlights.
The event is organized by ESMT Berlin in collaboration with the Spreeinsel interest group and is accessible free of charge. Visitors can look forward to a colorful program overview:
- 14:00 Uhr: Türen öffnen
- 15:00 Uhr: Begrüßung und Vorstellung der teilnehmenden Institutionen, Beginn des Bühnenprogramms
- 15:30 und 18:30 Uhr: Musikalische Darbietungen von der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler
- 17:00 Uhr: Panel zur Stadtentwicklung mit Prof. Petra Kahlfeldt, Senatsbaudirektorin von Berlin
- Ganztägig: Kinderprogramm, Food Trucks, geführte Touren, Informationsstände und Ausstellung zu geplanten Entwicklungen
- Stündliche Verlosungen während des Bühnenprogramms
A thematic highlight is the panel discussion at 5:00 p.m., which deals with architectural development, the design of public spaces and community life. The event is rounded off with musical contributions from the ESMT Choir as well as informal discussions with representatives of the participating institutions.
Cultural heritage of the Museum Island
In the immediate vicinity of the Spree Island is the renowned Museum Island Berlin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. The Museum Island, which attracts millions of visitors annually, includes five major museums, including the Altes Museum, which opened on August 3, 1830, the Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode Museum and the Pergamonmuseum. To celebrate this anniversary, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation organized a five-year festival program that began with the farewell ceremony for Hermann Parzinger on May 27, 2025 in the New Museum. Marion Ackermann was introduced as the foundation's new president during this event.
On June 1, 2025, UNESCO World Heritage Day, the bicentenary of the Museum Island will also be celebrated, with visitors able to experience the significance of this cultural heritage.
The events and celebrations around the Spree Island not only offer insights into Berlin's lived history, but also invite you to actively shape the future. Anyone who would like to share in these experiences will have the opportunity to do so on July 5, 2025, during the ESMT Berlin celebrations.
