Oswald Egger: Poetic-philosophical lecture at the FU Berlin!

This lecture is a collaboration between the Dahlem Humanities Center (DHC) and Suhrkamp Verlag and shows the commitment to promoting dialogue between literature, media and the humanities.

The series invites writers associated with Suhrkamp Verlag every two years, with a focus on the tension between literature and society. In his upcoming lecture, Egger will deal with the transitions between thinking, language and perception. His lecture will be designed as a poetic-philosophical text that emphasizes movement and self-reflection. This discussion is particularly relevant in the context of his previous works, which have received numerous awards, including the 2024 Georg Büchner Prize and the 2019 Ernst Jandl Prize.

The speaker: Oswald Egger

Oswald Egger, born in Lana/South Tyrol in 1963, studied German and philosophy. His prose and poems have been translated into several languages and show an impressive range of forms of expression. He lives and works at the Hombroich rocket station and has been a professor of language and design at the Muthesius Art University in Kiel since 2011. One of his most important literary works is “Discrete Stability” from 2008, which deals with poetry and mathematics and caused a stir in the literary community.

His thinking is described as immemorial, whereby he operates in his own world of form that oscillates between formula and form. The lecture will address intuitive tuning in intonation and the testing of language, while Egger develops non-objective, interwoven worlds in the form of words and forms without words.
