Premiere of Don Giovanni in Berlin: A musical masterpiece!
The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) is preparing for a big event: the opera “Don Giovanni” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will celebrate its debut on July 5th and 6th, 2025. Director Lars Franke and conductor Errico Fresis are at the helm of this impressive production, which deals with complex themes such as relationships between men and women, fear of commitment and fantasies of redemption. This work, performed in Italian with German surtitles, appears as a creative reinterpretation of the classical repertoire.
The performances take place in the UNI.T – Theater of the UdK Berlin, located at Fasanenstraße 1B, 10623 Berlin. In addition to the premiere, further performances are scheduled for July 8th and 9th, 2025, at 7 p.m. The entrance fee for this top-class production is 12 euros, reduced price 6 euros. Audiences and participants can expect a follow-up conversation on July 8th in which the team will provide insights into the production.
A look at the production
The plot of “Don Giovanni” puts the eponymous character at the center, surrounded by characters who project their own ideas onto him. The production focuses on the last three days of the protagonist, whose life is marked by guilt and fear of death after he kills the commander. The impressive collaboration between different degree programs at the UdK is particularly clear here. The stage design and costumes are realized under the creative guidance of Sarah Hrstková, Idil Karaca and Louise-Fee Nitschke. Marion Hirte and Miriam Damm are responsible for dramaturgy and lighting design.
The impressive cast of this performance brings together talents: Inha Jeon portrays Don Giovanni on July 5th and 8th, while Jinhyouk Yoon takes on the role on July 6th and 9th. Other leading roles include Yujeong Kwak as Donna Anna and Tianjiao Yin as Donna Elvira. The UdK Berlin Symphony Orchestra will support the musical accompaniment with full commitment and will bring out the unique dramma giocoso.
Anniversary celebrations and organizational background
The production of “Don Giovanni” not only marks a significant cultural event, but is also in the context of the 50th anniversary of the UdK Berlin, which will be celebrated in 2025. Prof. Dr. Markus Hilgert, President of the UdK since April 1, 2025, is leading the institution into another creative chapter that combines both academic and artistic excellence.
