Farewell and a new beginning: Gammelin is retiring from the MHB!
On August 1, 2025, an era at the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB) will come to an end. Cornelia Gammelin, a long-time student service employee, is retiring from her active career after around ten years. In his speech, President Hans-Uwe Simon praised Gammelin's commitment and the importance she had for the team and the students. The university experienced a moving farewell ceremony at which it was honored by both colleagues and students.
Maximilian Fichtl, medical student and MHB alumnus, did not miss the opportunity to visit Gammelin personally to thank her for her support and friendship. He described her as a central contact for students whose advice and help were invaluable. Gammelin will return temporarily after a short holiday break from September 1st to help with the training of her successor. The entire MHB team wishes her all the best for the new phase of her life.
New educational offerings at the MHB
However, the MHB is not standing still as an important phase closes. The university is offering a new Certified Advanced Studies (CAS) course that is specifically designed for those affected as well as for active members of self-help and members of patient and family organizations. The course, which is held in German over three semesters, deals with the implementation of participation and participation in the area of tension between self-help, care facilities and health and social policy.
A particular focus is on the exchange between participants and the development of insights and options for action. The curriculum includes group work and self-study, supported by mentoring options. Participants can end the course with an internship or an optional homework assignment as well as a final presentation. Successful completion is documented with a certificate that can be credited towards other study programs.
Diverse study options
The MHB is characterized not only by its current further training opportunities, but also by its diverse range of courses in the areas of medicine, dentistry, psychotherapy, health services research and addiction help. In contrast to traditional universities, students are not selected based on the numerus clausus (NC), but rather with regard to personality, motivation and previous professional experience. This highlights the university as a pioneer in the design of innovative, approval-compliant study programs.
While the university prepared for the changes in leadership, it remains true to its claim of teaching and researching at a high medical and academic level. The MHB is proud of its integrated and practice-oriented curriculum, which significantly reduces the risk of students failing the integrated M1 exam.
The commitment to high-quality education will remain a central part of the MHB philosophy in the coming years, while the university simultaneously breaks new ground in educating and supporting its students.
