New program at BTU: Exciting insights into university life!
From October 2025 it will move BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg With her guest listening course “KNOWLEDGE FOR EVERYONE”, everyone who is interested will be captivated. This offer enables participants to experience university life up close and to actively further their education. The motto “Discover new things, deepen what is tried and tested” underlines the approach of offering both innovative and proven learning formats.
The program includes a variety of event formats, including lectures, seminars, workshops and panel discussions. The subject areas of culture, science, technology, society and politics cover a wide range. Particularly noteworthy are the innovative learning formats, which include 3D printing specials, a radio day with Freie Radio Cottbus and a writing workshop with the author Franziska Steinhauer.
A variety of excursions and further training opportunities
Another highlight are the excursions that deal with Jewish life in Cottbus and security organizations in globally changing situations. A visit to the chesco research factory is also on the program, as is the project “99 objects from Lusatia – seizing the future”. Further excursions take you to places such as the Schwarze Pumpe adventure power plant and the Cottbus zoo.
There is a long-running favorite for seniors: the Seniors Academy. This includes weekly lectures, language and sports lessons in around 70 sports. Participants can also use the university libraries in Cottbus and Senftenberg and benefit from reduced prices in cultural institutions made available through cultural partnerships, including the Cottbus State Theater and regional museums.
Mutual exchange without pressure to perform
The guest students have the opportunity to attend regular lectures at the BTU without being exposed to the pressure of exams. The topics of these lectures range from natural sciences and engineering to humanities and social sciences. An important goal of the program is to promote lifelong learning and strengthen social exchange between generations by attracting people of all ages.
Every semester, around 400 participants start studying as guest students. This program is also aimed at working people or people in post-professional further training who would like to expand their knowledge or seek guidance for regular studies. Studying as a guest student at the BTU offers several opportunities for personal and academic development.
The next steps for those interested include attending an information event on Wednesday, April 10th at 2 p.m. in the Konrad Zuse Media Center on the Senftenberg campus. The organizer is Susett Tanneberger from BTU Communications. This event presents current courses, workshops and excursions that are part of the guest auditor studies, such as the library rally for literature searches and special offers in literature and theater.
