UNITHEA Theater Festival: Passion conquers Frankfurt and Słubice!
The European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) is preparing for a series of cultural and academic events that will take place in the coming weeks. These events not only focus on art and science, but also rely on an intercultural approach to shed light on current social issues.
From June 13th to 14th, the UNITHEA theater festival will open under the theme “Passion” in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice. Organized by Viadrina students, the festival begins with an opening ceremony on June 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Kleist Forum. europa-uni.de reports that this festival will highlight students' creative expressions.
Various events in June
In addition to the theater performance, there are other exciting programs on the agenda. The KIU Graduate School will be officially opened on June 16th. The lecture entitled "Resilience, Restoration and Transformation. Ukraine in a world of turmoil" will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the loge house. This event addresses current challenges and developments in Ukraine.
For film enthusiasts there will be a screening of the film “Women in Landscapes” by Sabine Michel on June 17th. The subsequent discussion with Prof. Dr. Daniel Illger will take place at the Kulturmanufaktur Gerstenberg at 6:00 p.m. Also on June 17th, the research colloquium “Immersion and Power Staging” will be held in the Lodge House with a lecture by David Heinz on the study of court festivals in Versailles under Louis XIV.
Another reading with Prof. Dr. Michael Göring, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the city and regional library, will discuss his novel “Algund” and the title “On Life in the Turning Times”.
Discussion and excursions
An explosive topic becomes part of the current analysis: “Global trade war?” on June 18th at 1:00 p.m. This discussion on tariff wars and protectionism is led by Dr. Sonja Priebus moderates.
In addition, two excursions are offered: The excursion “The Cistercians between the monastery and the world” follows on June 20th, and one day later, on June 21st, “ViaPilgern” takes place, where the route leads from Frankfurt (Oder) via Briesen to Fürstenwalde. Advance registration is required for both events.
Comprehensive exhibitions are also part of the program. The exhibition “Kant & Königsberg” can be seen until June 18th. Two further exhibitions, “Mod-Block-DDR” and “Where is this East Germany?”, are open until the end of August and August 2, 2025 respectively. These exhibitions deal with historical and social issues in East Germany.
In addition, the exhibition “Some Were Neighbors” will be on view in the Viadrina Municipal Museum until the end of the year. The event highlights in May 2025 already included an opening of the Ukraine Lecture Series, which covers social and historical topics, as well as workshops, lectures and a panel discussion with prominent speakers.
