Winter Class 2025: Film professionals develop their series skills in Potsdam!

The Winter Class Serial Writing and Producing, a renowned continuing education program, has been running successfully for ten years now Babelsberg Film University KONRAD WOLF and that Erich Pommer Institute organized. Due to the current circumstances, the 6th edition of the program, originally planned for October and November 2020, will be held as an online seminar to meet the needs of the industry.

The focus is on teaching core skills in the areas of series development, production and writing. The participants, made up of professionals from the film and television industry, can look forward to a program that includes lectures, case studies and practical workshops. Two modules are offered: Module 1 “Serial Business” and Module 2 “Serial Practice”, which will take place in November and December 2025.

Program overview

The first module, “Serial Business”, will take place from November 13th to 15th, 2025. Topics such as series production, financing, co-production, distribution and showrunning are covered here. The following module, which will take place from December 4th to 6th, 2025, is all about writing room methods, series development and contract drafting. A special highlight is the “Plotting in the Room” workshop, run by the experienced showrunner Kelly Souders is directed.

Participants can also look forward to an impressive list of international experts who will promote exchange and networking. Confirmed speakers include, among others Maggie Murphy, Hanno Hackfort, Bob Konrad, Richard Kropf and many other greats from the industry.

The winter class is supported by several industry partners, including Audible, Beta Film, Nico Hofmann Film, REAL FILM Berlin and UFA, and enjoys the highest recognition in the film and television landscape.

The program is not only an excellent opportunity for professionals to expand their skills, but also an opportunity to exchange information about current developments and trends in a rapidly changing media landscape. The cooperation between the Babelsberg Film University, the University of Potsdam and the Erich Pommer Institute addresses the digital change in the industry and aims to explore new business areas, exploitation and revenue models.

In addition, a part-time master's degree program in the field of Digital Media Law and Management is also offered. The aim of this course is to impart practical knowledge on how to design innovation and business development processes. The participants not only learn business knowledge, but also important skills in media law, contract drafting and communication and negotiation.
