Bucerius Law School: Revolutionary teaching concepts for law students!

Bucerius Law School is setting new standards in legal teaching with the founding of the Alumni Center for Teaching and Learning (ACTL). This center is a merger of the Center for Legal Learning and the Learning Innovation Lab, which together aim to provide innovative impulses for law studies and to find solutions to the challenges of modern legal education. This development was made possible by a generous donation from the Alumni Association of 100,000 euros, which represents significant support for the desired reforms law-school.de reported.

The academic management of the ACTL is the responsibility of the experienced professors Dr. Olivia Czerny and Dr. Volker Steffahn. The managing director Sven Störmann, an alumnus of the university and former head of the Learning Innovation Lab, runs the center's business. The ACTL has set itself the goal of supporting students from the start of their studies to exam preparation by strengthening their methodological skills and developing innovative teaching formats.

Challenges in studying law

A central concern of the ACTL is to address the challenges that shape law studies today. These include the increasing complexity of the legal system, technological developments and the changing expectations of students. They expect a closer connection to the job market and more modern teaching methods in order to better prepare them for their future professional reality idw-online.de presented in detail.

The ACTL thus combines didactic excellence with an innovation-driven approach to university development. The topics that the center pursues range from the integration of generative AI into teaching to the development of new teaching and learning formats to research into the didactic benefits of digital tools. This includes, for example, the digital learning platform “dskrpt”, which was developed specifically for law students to make the learning process easier.

Innovative teaching approaches

The Learning Innovation Lab, founded in 2020, acts as a service provider for teachers and focuses on continuous innovation in legal education. It provides a central home for teaching methods and enables teachers to find out about and implement new projects. Particularly noteworthy are the user-friendly teaching videos, which help students better understand the content and prepare for their exams.

The concept of blended learning enables a combination of digital teaching content and face-to-face events. The interactive videos promote active participation among students and deepen their understanding in the classroom phases. In addition, video correction, which enables students to follow the correction process of their exams in a video, was introduced in 2019 in collaboration with the Center for Legal Learning law-school.de reported.

Current ACTL projects include the establishment of an exam center, the further development of the exam course and the development of a legal loop model. With the vision of sustainably modernizing legal education, Bucerius Law School is demonstrating its place as a pioneer in higher education. The President of the Bucerius Law School, Prof. Dr. Michael Grünberger, emphasizes the importance of these initiatives in raising the university's profile as a center of excellent teaching.

Through the diverse offerings and the committed work of the ACTL, the Bucerius Law School will continue to play a leading role in the training of young lawyers and thus also have a decisive influence on the quality of legal education in Germany.
