Future of cultural management: New master’s degree starts in Lüneburg in 2025!

The master’s program “Arts and Cultural Management” will start again at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg on May 14, 2025. This interdisciplinary program aims at internationalization, transformation, digitalization and sustainability in cultural management. It is offered in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, which brings valuable experience in international cultural management to its development and teaching. The combination of theory and practice enables students to acquire in-depth knowledge of entrepreneurship and audience development that they can implement in their home countries.

Students have the opportunity to choose between two versions of the program: a three-semester version with 60 credit points (CP) and a four-semester version with 90 CP. The practical qualification takes place through international case studies and project work, which are integrated as essential components of the degree program. Travel to Lüneburg is required for the two one-week block events, while the rest of the course is carried out via a digital learning platform.

A flexible learning offer

The master's program is designed as a part-time, English-language distance learning course that is open to cultural specialists worldwide. Students can not only expand their knowledge, but also put together four certificate programs from the modules or take individual modules. Three subject-specific certificates are also offered, which further sharpen the academic profile. Admission to the program requires an initial professional qualification in the form of a university degree and at least one year of relevant professional experience. Good knowledge of English is also required.

For those interested, the next program start is planned for September 2025, with the application deadline running until May 31, 2025. The Goethe-Institut also offers digital and regional qualification and networking programs in the area of cultural management. This all promotes integrated learning, often known as blended learning. Personal consultations with study program coordinator Christian Holst can be had at any time without making an appointment in advance.

The focus is on the certificate course

In addition to the master's degree, Leuphana University also offers the certificate program “International Cultural Management in Transition”, which begins every year in March. The application deadline for this program is January 31st of each year. Those interested can take individual modules and have them credited towards the certificate program later. Entry requirements include either a completed university degree with at least two years of professional experience or at least five years of professional experience without a university degree. Advanced English skills are also required here.
