Ceremonial graduation: Giessen teaching graduates receive their certificates!

Around 500 teacher training students at the Justus Liebig University of Giessen (JLU) have received admission to the first state examination in spring 2025. This enormous number reflects not only the commitment of the candidates, but also the high quality of the training at JLU. Without teaching at special schools, graduates will receive their diploma on June 6, 2025, which marks an important milestone in their academic career. The ceremonial presentation of certificates will take place in the congress hall of the university town of Giessen, and numerous guests are invited, including family members, friends, teachers and city and political representatives.

The event is organized by the Center for Teacher Training at JLU, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Alexander Goesmann, the Vice President for Studies and Teaching, and the Hessian Teaching Academy – Gießen Examination Center. Interestingly, the celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with greetings from high-ranking representatives, including the teaching department and the state education authority. Before that, at 3 p.m., a service on the topic of “Historical Moments” will take place in the Pankratius Chapel, led by professors Dr. Athina Lexutt and Dr. Ansgar Kreutzer is designed.

Recognition of outstanding achievements

During the festivities, the best academic papers from the first state examination will also be honored. This underlines the academic excellence of the graduates, who stand out not only for their completed courses but also for their special achievements. Music lovers can look forward to the band “Akustik Jukebox”, which will provide musical accompaniment to the event.

The certificates are presented to graduates of primary school, secondary school, secondary school and high school teaching qualifications. This handover not only represents a successful completion of the course, but also a remarkable step towards a professional future in education.

Study opportunities and support for students

There are numerous support programs for students in Germany, such as the Kickstarter grants that were available for the 2021/2022 academic year. These grants help ease financial burdens, whether for tuition, books or health insurance. A total of six grants were available, aimed at full-time students in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The conditions and application process are clearly defined to ensure fair access, which is particularly important for aspiring teachers.

The JLU and similar institutions also offer over 650 university locations with more than 20,000 courses on offer. A helpful tool on platforms like Studium.de makes it possible to organize and save interesting courses. The “Favorites” feature helps students manage their options.

Overall, the upcoming celebrations at Justus Liebig University Giessen show the successes and challenges that students have overcome on their way to becoming teachers. For many of them, the event on June 6, 2025 will not only be a graduation, but also the beginning of a promising career in education.
