The value of the special stamp is 2.90 euros. Anyone interested could register for the approximately 90-minute ceremony by email until February 24th.
The event was not only an opportunity to acquire the brand, but also a moment of commemoration of personalities who have made outstanding contributions to the university. The university choir provided a festive musical setting. The Federal Ministry of Finance, which receives around 500 suggestions for new stamps every year and only considers every tenth suggestion, recognized the outstanding position of the Clausthal University of Technology in education, research and innovation.
History and significance of TU Clausthal
Clausthal University of Technology was founded in 1775 and was originally known as the Mining Academy. Since 1864 it has officially had the title of Technical University. Today the university offers a variety of courses, including energy, natural resources, mechanical engineering and computer science. Over 30% of students are from abroad, which underlines the university's international reputation. Clausthal University of Technology often receives top marks in university rankings, which demonstrates the high quality of the education.
A central leitmotif of the university is the topic of “Circular Economy”, which runs through numerous research and study programs. The selection of the special stamp is therefore in the context of the long tradition and innovative strength of Clausthal University of Technology, which proudly looks back on its history and at the same time looks to the future.
The special stamp in context
The stamp, issued in 2025, is part of a larger series for which the Federal Ministry of Finance's Program Advisory Board has selected 52 designs. This year, new plus brands will also be introduced that benefit charitable causes and deal with the motto “Helpers of humanity”. The special themes of the stamps also include anniversaries, historical buildings and important research areas such as quantum sciences.
Clausthal University of Technology has established itself as a central element of the German university landscape, not least through the introduction of this special stamp. The connection between tradition and innovation will continue to be a key to their success in the future.
