Bonsai for children: artistic development in the botanical garden!

Today a special event is being celebrated in the Botanical Garden of the University of Osnabrück: the Bonsai Days. These are carried out in collaboration with the “Freundeskreis Botanischer Garten e.V.” and the garden team, with the aim of promoting interest in the fascinating art of bonsai.

This year, a taster course for children will be offered for the first time. This is aimed specifically at children aged 8 to 13 and takes place in cooperation with the Green School in the Botanical Garden. The club's experienced bonsai friends give instructions and support the young participants in designing their first bonsai trees.

Course details and registration

The children have the opportunity to take home their first tree and a bonsai guide. The course is limited to 12 children to ensure individual attention. The cost of participation is 5 euros, which will be used as a donation. The courses take place on the following dates:

  • Samstag, 24. Mai, 15 bis 16.30 Uhr
  • Sonntag, 25. Mai, 11 bis 12.30 Uhr

Registration is due by email by May 23rd bg-buero@uni-osnabrueck.de or by phone at (0541) 969 2739. The art of bonsai, which means “tree in a shell” in Japanese, can be created from any woody plant without the need for special cultivation.

About the art of bonsai

The art of bonsai can be learned and requires patience and knowledge. Bonsai trees are not only a visual highlight, but also require special growing conditions and care. The Bonsai Friends Club, which has its origins in the first meetings in Voxtrup in 1985, offers a wide range of workshops and courses. These are suitable for both beginners and advanced users.

Diverse offers from blumen-vandermolen.de include practical experience and knowledge for the care and design of bonsai. In addition to beginner courses, specialized workshops and online courses are also offered that enable flexible learning. Participants can bring their own materials and learn to successfully apply the basics of bonsai design, including cutting, wiring and repotting.

There are also special workshops for children that offer a playful introduction to bonsai design. These events are family-friendly and encourage creative projects.

The Bonsai Days in the Botanical Garden are not only a meeting place for bonsai enthusiasts, but also an opportunity to introduce young people to the fascination of this centuries-old art form.
