Heroines of the future: Graduation from the Lower Saxony Technical Center in Braunschweig!

The closing event of the Lower Saxony Technical Center took place on March 20, 2025 at the Technical University of Braunschweig. In this context, the participants presented the projects they realized during their internships at various partner companies. A total of 16 young women from the 2024/25 class received their certificates and thus valuable confirmation of their achievements.

The Lower Saxony Technical Center is aimed at young women with a high school diploma or a technical college entrance qualification and aims to inspire them to take MINT courses. The program lasts six months and offers participants the opportunity to gain practical experience in various technical professions. The technicians spend four days a week on a paid company internship and one day at a college or university, where they can take part in a taster course, such as Lower Saxony Technical Center explained.

Experiences and perspectives

The participants reported on the valuable insights they were able to gain during the technical center. Lena Meindermann, 19, said that the program made her choose electrical engineering instead of mechanical engineering. Jette Heins (20) was also able to strengthen her self-confidence and is now planning to study bio, chemical and pharmaceutical engineering. Vanessa Kuhlmann (20) emphasized the importance of the workshops and insights for her choice of studies and the expansion of her interests in the MINT subjects.

Karola Viergutz's science slam with the topic “Autonomous driving and the future of public transport” was particularly impressive and was seen as the highlight of the event. The atmosphere of the final event offered numerous opportunities for exchange and networking among the participants and those responsible at the technical center.

Commitment and support

The Niedersachsen-Technikum is supported by eight cooperation companies from the region, which provide internships and financial support. This enables the technicians to gain deeper insights into everyday study and work life in the MINT area. Amelie Johannsmann (19) reported that she decided on mechanical engineering thanks to the insights into the companies and institutes, while Nele Klee (20) found out that she wanted to pursue programming as a career.

All 16 graduates from the 2024/25 class have decided to start a technical degree. Among the graduates is Ida Eitner (19), who was convinced by the technical center to study mechanical engineering. The offer also included weekly university days, which included events on study programs, choice of subject and financing, and numerous workshops and excursions that were carried out in collaboration with technicians from Clausthal University of Technology.

Those who took part in the Niedersachsen-Technikum were not only able to acquire practical skills, but also gain valuable experience that will be of great use to them in their future academic and professional careers. The program impressively shows that targeted support and practical experience are crucial for entry into technical careers TU Braunschweig emphasized.
