Balu and You: Unique mentoring program started in Cologne!

The “Balu and You” program at the German Sport University Cologne started a new cohort in May 2025. Five students, also known as Balus, from three different study programs take part in this event. The initiative offers participants the opportunity to mentor a primary school child – a so-called Mogli – for a year. These tandems meet regularly in their free time to experience exercise, games and sport together.

The offer is aimed particularly at children who need support in their personal development and movement socialization. The Moglis experience social support, autonomy, self-confidence and self-efficacy through their mentors. At the same time, the Balus take responsibility and reflect on their own image of society. The program also offers participants the opportunity to overcome challenges and experience the world through the eyes of children. It is not only an educational experience but also a valuable learning experience outside of the lecture hall.
