Vocational training to become an office management clerk is becoming increasingly important and is enjoying great popularity in Germany. At the University of Witten/Herdecke (UW/H) The new training cohort began on August 1, 2025. The UW/H has been training its own young talent for 40 years, relying on a combination of theory and practice.

Chancellor Jan Peter Nonnenkamp emphasizes the central role of well-qualified and motivated staff in today's working world. The previous trainees have consistently found employment thanks to the practical training, with many staying with the company for over two decades.

Diverse training opportunities

The training to become an office management clerk lasts three years and is dual, which means that the trainees learn both in the company and at the vocational school. The focus is on the areas of financial accounting, human resources, communication and research funding. A close-knit support system promotes the individual development of the trainees, who design the training plan together with their mentors.

Lucie Jabs, a second-year trainee, reports on her active participation in projects such as the Christmas party and a sustainability campaign. Eveline Becker, a former trainee, highlights the practical training that made her transition to financial accounting easier.

The training regulations will be comprehensively reformed from August 1, 2025 in order to meet the requirements of digitalization and sustainability. This includes new elective qualifications and clear examination requirements. The training covers important aspects such as appointment scheduling, email correspondence, invoicing and organizing meetings, with trainees also taking on responsibility for customer service.

Prospects and earning potential

The career prospects for office management clerks are promising. The demand for qualified specialists is high due to the shortage of skilled workers. The typical training allowance is between 682 and 1,338 euros in the first year, between 805 and 1,372 euros in the second year and between 921 and 1,466 euros in the third year. After training, a starting salary of 2,800 to 3,300 euros gross is realistic.

In the long term, average salaries between 3,400 and 3,700 euros are possible, and experienced specialists can even earn up to 4,700 euros through further training. A clear organizational structure and the opportunity to specialize in areas such as human resources, accounting or project management open up a variety of career paths for trainees.

Training to become an office management clerk is not only a solid foundation for your professional career, but also an opportunity to actively participate in developments in the modern working world. The UW/H also uses innovative teaching methods that enable trainees to apply theoretical knowledge directly in dental assistant training.

Interested parties have the opportunity to apply until February 28, 2026 for the training to start on August 1, 2026. The requirements for potential trainees include organizational talent, communication skills and the willingness to work in a team. An appropriate demeanor during the application phase is also recommended.
