Bochum in focus: Symposium revolutionizes medical studies!
The symposium on the further development of medical studies took place on March 13th and 14th, 2025 in the event center of the Ruhr University Bochum. With the title “Constructive Alignment 3.0 – teaching-learning-testing from a single source” it attracted around 100 experts from the DACH region. The event was dedicated to holistic medical training, which focuses on the coordination of teaching, learning processes and examinations. The symposium was organized by Prof. Dr. med. Thorsten Schäfer and his team from the Center for Medical Teaching.
Numerous topics were discussed over the two days of the symposium. The exchange of concepts on medical education was particularly emphasized. The innovative model course in human medicine at the University of Witten/Herdecke, which is considered a model for other state universities, played a central role.
Focus topics and presentations
Highlights of the symposium included various presentations that addressed innovative approaches to medical education. Robin Herbrechter spoke about the importance of functioning communication structures, while Benjamin Paul presented innovative audit approaches. Another important contribution came from Michaela Stratmann, who presented a web-based live feedback system in teaching. Annika Haupt presented the concept of constructive alignment in the clinical training phase and its relevance for future medical training.
The symposium also offered a platform for the exchange of ideas and impulses that are important for the future of medical studies. Other topics included the integration of new content into the course, the design of future-oriented learning processes and the further development of examination formats. Participants had the opportunity to submit contributions in the form of minute talks until February 16, 2025 in order to be able to present their ideas.
Registration and networking
Registration for the symposium was possible until March 7, 2025 via the symposium website. To promote networking, a get-together took place on March 13th in the Q-West restaurant. The event was an important step in discussing innovative approaches to aligning teaching, learning strategies and examinations in medical studies.
Further information about the symposium is available on the Ruhr-Universität Bochum website, which provides the latest program updates and event details.
