Dortmund: Campus check – How to get to TU Dortmund quickly!
The Technical University of Dortmund (TU Dortmund) is planning to merge its locations on Emil-Figge-Straße. This decision has the potential to significantly improve the student experience and the efficiency of the institution. The TU Dortmund, which is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, is distinguished by its excellent connections.
The campus is easy to reach via both the Sauerland line A45 and the Ruhrschnellweg B1/A40. Particularly noteworthy is the Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45, which leads directly to Campus South, while the Dortmund-Dorstfeld and -Barop exits on the A40 provide access to Campus North. Signage along exits ensures visitors can easily find the university.
In addition to these first-class road connections, students have access to extensive transport connections. Campus North is home to an S-Bahn station that runs regularly every 15 to 30 minutes to connect with Dortmund Central Station and the important cities of Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. Bus connections 445, 447 and 462 also offer easy access. Informative material on timetable information is available on the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association website, while DSW21 provides an interactive route network map.
Sustainability and mobility
The TU Dortmund also attaches great importance to sustainability. E-cars can be charged at a charging station on Campus North, which meets the increased interest in electromobility. The campus structure supports environmentally friendly mobility, which is also reflected in the famous H-Bahn. This H-Bahn connects the campuses and runs every 10 to 5 minutes. The H-Bahn line 1 runs from the technology center via the south campus to the university, while line 2 commutes from the north campus to the south campus in two minutes.
Courses and digital offerings
An event “Components and Systems for Electromobility” is planned for the winter semester 2024/2025, which is open to students of electrical engineering, information technology and computer science. The necessary materials will be provided via Moodle and participants will be informed immediately of any changes. Registration through the LSF system is required to access the materials. Automated activation in the Moodle system will take place within 24 hours of LSF registration. Lecture slides will be made available for download at the beginning of the event, while exercise materials will be available at least one week before the respective exercise.
An important aspect of this course is the recognition of achievements, which must be clarified with the computer science examination office. Contact persons can be reached during the event if problems arise and will be announced during office hours and in the literature provided.
Overall, with the planned merger of the locations and the focus on modern teaching methods and mobility solutions, the TU Dortmund shows that it continues to pursue a future-oriented educational concept.
