Torchlight procession of the FISU Games 2025: Bochum celebrates sport!
Bochum will host the FISU Games from July 16th to 27th, 2025. The torch will come to the RUB campus on May 8th.

Torchlight procession of the FISU Games 2025: Bochum celebrates sport!
On May 8, 2025 the torch will be raised Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games (World University Games) reach the campus of the Ruhr University Bochum. The event, which will take place from July 16 to 27, 2025 in several cities, including Duisburg, Essen, Hagen, Mülheim and Berlin, was officially opened in January 2023 at the winter event in Turin.
The torch is scheduled to arrive in Bochum at around 4 p.m. with the U35. After its arrival, the torch is carried around campus by numerous prominent runners. These include graduates and university employees who have both sporting success and volunteer work. Runners include:

- Prof. Dr. Petra Platen, Lehrstuhl für Sportmedizin und frühere Handball-Nationalspielerin
- Georgios Charalampidis, RUB-Student und Leistungssportler im Tanzen
- Simon Reinke, RUB-Student und Spitzensportler im Schwimmen

There will be numerous opportunities along the route to cheer on the runners and support the torchbearers. This is not only a sporting celebration, but also a significant event for the entire region.
FISU World Conference 2025
As part of the World University Games, the FISU World Conference 2025 organized. This conference has the theme “Competing for Change: Exploring Sustainability and (Mental) Health through Sports”. It is dedicated to important aspects at the intersection of physical performance, mental health and environmental sustainability.
The central subtopics include:
- Mental Health und Leistungsdruck bei Athleten
- Herausforderungen der Work-Life-Balance für Hochleistungstrainer und andere Stakeholder
- Ökologische Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen auf Universitätscampus
- Gesundheit und Wohlbefinden im Sport
The topics are particularly relevant in a rapidly changing world and take into account societal concerns about mental health resilience and sustainable development. Students are the focus as they face both academic and sporting pressure to perform.
The goal of the conference is to develop comprehensive strategies to promote athletic performance and career longevity and to establish sustainable practices and support systems worldwide. These measures aim to create healthier and more balanced communities.
