Hagen in the spotlight: FISU World University Games 2025 starting soon!
The FISU World University Games will take place this year from July 16 to 27, 2025 in North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin. Hagen was chosen as one of the capitals for this important event, enriching not only the local sports community but also the entire university sports landscape in Germany. FernUniversität Hagen will actively participate in the games with a group of 15 student athletes.
The participation of FernUniversität students covers different disciplines and is an exciting highlight for the institution. Athletes such as Tebbe Möller and Rotimi Ogunniyi will compete in 3×3 basketball, while Elias Baggette will compete in basketball. Judo is represented by Lasse Enrique Schriever and tennis by John Sperle, both of whom are also active in their courses at the FernUniversität.
An event in the Jahrhunderthalle
A remarkable event will take place on July 18, 2025 in the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum. This special day will be dedicated to the intersection of virtual reality and sustainable education. Such initiatives show that the FISU World University Games are not only a platform for sporting competitions, but also represent cultural and educational causes.
Hagen is the first city in North Rhine-Westphalia to receive the World University Games Host City plaque, and this happened on May 8, 2025. Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Isfen highlights the university's support for its competitive athletes, which benefits the athletes during their studies.
