Creative concert combines quantum physics and music in the heart of Duisburg!
The University of Duisburg-Essen is at the beginning of an eventful autumn. With the start of the new academic year, a variety of events are being offered that appeal to students and the general public. A special highlight is the project “A Quantum of Music – Music meets Science in the Quantum Year 2025”, which will take place on Sunday, October 5th, in the Old Audimax on the Duisburg campus.
As the University of Duisburg-Essen reports, the events invite participation and learning. Upcoming offerings include a Mid-Autumn Festival workshop for children at the Confucius Institute on September 26th and a concert by the Big Bandits, who will perform jazzy tunes on September 27th. There will also be a networking meeting on October 2nd in the water café of the Center for Water and Environmental Research. The official semester begins on October 6th with a welcome event for first-year students.
Concert “Quantum of Music”
The concert “A Quantum of Music” will take place on Sunday, October 5th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is organized by the Hamborn Abbey Wind Symphony, an ensemble that has existed since 2021 and includes around 40 active musicians. You will receive support from Prof. Dr. Axel Lorke and Dr. Nicolas Wöhrl, both of whom work at the University of Duisburg-Essen and are involved in science communication.
In an innovative format, this concert combines musical content with scientific explanations of quantum physics. Listeners can look forward to a wide repertoire that includes popular tunes, including pieces from “Aladdin” and “Star Wars,” as well as specially arranged pieces of music. The event is designed to make the quantum world and its effects on everyday life understandable.
Entry and registration
The ticket price for the concert is 15 euros, reduced price 10 euros. Tickets are available as a print@home option or can be purchased at the box office. No special previous knowledge is required – the participants’ curiosity is enough. If you are interested, you can contact Dr. directly if you have any further questions. Contact Nicolas Wöhrl on 0203/379-3131 or by email nicolas.woehrl@uni-due.de.
In a remarkable interplay of science and art, this concert not only contributes to promoting culture, but also creates a platform for discussion about the fascinating aspects of quantum physics. As the concert team emphasizes, it will also serve as a space for scientific inspiration.
