MINT Congress 2025: Discover future education at the Ruhr University Bochum!

The Ruhr University Bochum will host the 115th Congress of the Association for the Promotion of MINT Teaching (MNU) from May 1st to 4th, 2025. Under the motto “Design rooms and lessons, think about education in a future-oriented way”, the event promises an extensive program for teachers of all types of schools. The North Rhine-Westphalia School Minister Dorothee Feller takes over the patronage.

During the congress, participants can expect a variety of offerings, including lectures, workshops and the opportunity to network with colleagues. In addition, laboratories and institutes at the Ruhr University will be opened to promote exchanges about current developments in MINT education. The opening event will take place on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. in the Audimax and is open to the university public.

Program and speakers

A special attraction of the congress will be the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Onur Güntürkün, who deals with the topic “Learning – Retaining – Applying: The Neuroscientific Perspective”. This addresses an important aspect of MINT education, which includes not only theoretical but also practical components.

In addition to the lectures, the program also includes numerous workshops and excursions that give participants deeper insights into practical STEM education. The registration phase has already started and interested teachers should register soon to take advantage of the reduced participation fees until March 31, 2025.

Target group and registration options

The congress is aimed at teachers from the subjects of mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, computer science and technology. Students at Ruhr University can participate free of charge, while students from other universities can benefit from reduced fees. Registrations are possible online, which enables easy and flexible organization of participation.

The Professional School of Education at the Ruhr University Bochum plays a crucial role in organizing the event and supports the teachers in their professionalization. Nowadays, the promotion of MINT subjects is done in order to optimally prepare future generations for the challenges of the 21st century.

Context of STEM teacher training

Teacher training in the MINT area has been a central topic in the educational discussion for years. Projects to further develop teacher training in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology are crucial to improving the quality of teaching. Institutions such as the German Center for Mathematics Teacher Training (DZLM) and the Deutsche Telekom Foundation support these developments through practical training programs.

Efforts to improve STEM teacher training extend across various initiatives and universities, including the Free University of Berlin, the Humboldt University and the Technical University of Dortmund. The use of digital media and innovative teaching-learning modules aims to promote future-oriented pedagogical practice that enables teachers to align their teaching with the latest scientific findings.

Overall, the upcoming congress at the Ruhr University Bochum shows how important networking and professionalization is in the MINT sector. A space is created here in which teachers can discuss current topics and expand their specialist knowledge.
