Paderborn lecture series start: knowledge, music and sustainability in focus!

In the winter semester 2025/26, the University of Paderborn will be hosting extensive lecture series that deal with socially relevant topics. These academic events offer insights into various disciplines and are intended to appeal to students and interested parties. Lecturers and researchers from five faculties, supplemented by external experts, will give weekly lectures that shed light on a wide range of current issues. University of Paderborn reported that the lectures start from October 21st.

Particularly noteworthy is the lecture series “Knowledge, Work, Becoming – Radical Questions for Science, Art and Technology”, which starts on Tuesday, October 21st at 7 p.m. It addresses the production of knowledge beyond traditional academic structures and addresses aspects such as digital infrastructures, distribution of power in the definition of knowledge and modern technologies. Speakers expected include the artist collective “Quadrature”, the author Sibylle Berg and the podcasters Ole Nymoen and Wolfgang M. Schmitt.

A wide range of topics

Another interesting series is the lecture series “Music and Peace”, which deals with musical arrangements from the 17th to the 21st century. It begins on Wednesday, October 15th, at 6:15 p.m. in the dome hall of the Detmold University of Music. Dr. Florian Henri Besthorn will kick things off with a lecture on "Et in terra pax? On the appeal for peace in compositions by Jörg Widmann". The event is intended to shed light on the interactions between music and power politics.

The lecture series “UPB for Future”, which will take place on Thursday, October 16th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in lecture hall L1, is dedicated to the topic of sustainability. Ecological, social and economic dimensions as well as the challenges of climate change will be discussed. The lecture series “Cultural Perspectives on Media” also continues its internationally oriented lectures, starting on the same day at 4 p.m. in the O1 lecture hall, and examines media from interdisciplinary perspectives.

Digital formats and gender research

An additional offer is the lecture series “Language & Transcendence”, which will take place weekly digitally via Zoom from October 23rd at 6 p.m. The role of linguistic mediation in religious truth systems is examined. At the same time, the seminar “Interdisciplinary Gender Studies” starts on Tuesday, November 4th, which provides insights into current debates in gender studies and takes place weekly from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in room P1.102.

These lectures and seminars not only offer academic insights, but also space for discussions about relevant topics of our time. The University of Paderborn focuses entirely on the exchange and networking of knowledge. Anyone interested is warmly invited to take part in these events to discover and discuss the variety of topics. Uni Today reported that registration is not required for most events, which further promotes accessibility.
