On March 13, 2025, the Ruhr University Bochum achieved remarkable results in a current QS subject ranking. The university ranks among the top 100 in the world in two categories: Philosophy is ranked 46th, while Theology and Religious Studies are ranked in the 51 to 100 range. The Ruhr University Bochum, which was founded in 1962 and is considered Germany's first new public university after the Second World War, is one of the largest research universities in the country. In the QS World University Ranking 2025, the Ruhr University Bochum takes 396th place. The rankings of the last few years show a changeable development: 416 (2023), 375 (2024) and 396 (2025). For international students, the Ruhr University Bochum offers an attractive study environment without tuition fees; only a semester fee of around 350 euros is due, which also includes a ticket for public transport. The acceptance rate of 40% also makes the university moderately selective.
