Ruhr University Bochum shines in the 2025 university ranking!

On May 8, 2025, the Center for University Development (CHE) published its current university ranking, which highlights the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) in a particularly positive light. RUB received top grades in all 21 ranked subjects, which indicates first-class study quality. The students' assessments of topics such as support at the start of their studies, support from teachers and the facilities in the libraries were consistently positive. General aspects such as the study situation, study organization and the range of courses were also awarded high marks.

The ranking is based on the ratings of students who were surveyed about the league of 21 subjects at the RUB. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that more than half (51 percent) of student ratings are in the top group; In comparison, it was only 14 percent in 2022. What is also impressive is that none of the reviews fell into the bottom group, which underlines the consistently high level of satisfaction.

Deeper insights into the results

In total, the students assessed 18 criteria as part of the CHE ranking. There were notable differences between the individual subjects: Engineering received very good ratings for the internship laboratories, while humanities received particular honors in the “Introduction to Scientific Work” category. International students also appreciated RUB's internationally oriented master's degree programs, which were also positively received.

The subjects included in the ranking are broad and cover a wide range of disciplines. These include:

Invitation to take part in the survey

In the summer semester of 2025, the RUB will take part in the survey, which covers various master's courses, including philosophy, history and psychology. Students will be invited via email to participate in the online survey, which will be open from April 10 to August 10, 2025. Furthermore, the anonymity of the participants is guaranteed by randomly assigning the passwords. To make participation attractive, an iPad 15 and RUB cafeteria vouchers will be raffled off among participants.

The results of the ranking are not only published on the Hey Studium platform, but also made available in the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”. Prospective students, parents and teachers often use these results to guide them when choosing a course of study. In addition, the results help the RUB to develop further in order to continuously improve the study situation.

A current evaluation also shows that the majority of students in Germany are satisfied with their study experience. Around 28.0 percent rate the general study situation with five stars (very good), while 43.4 percent rate their studies with four stars. This satisfaction is evident in the CHE ranking, which was carried out over the course of the winter semesters from 2021/22 to 2023/24 and collected the opinions of more than 95,000 students.

In summary, the CHE ranking shows that the Ruhr University Bochum is on an excellent course and impresses its students with the quality of their studies. This positive feedback is not only a sign of the university's performance, but also an incentive for the continuous development of higher education.
