Open Day at the University of Bonn: A look behind the scenes!
On April 30, 2025, the University of Bonn invites you to an open day as part of the Dies academicus, which offers a diverse program of lectures, exhibitions and guided tours for visitors. The event will take place in and around the main building as well as in the associated museums and collections. Interdisciplinary offerings are intended to ensure that there is something for every taste.
Particular highlights are the lectures that deal with relevant topics of our time. Dr. Katharina Opalka from the Faculty of Evangelical Theology opens the series of lectures by academics at 10:00 a.m. in the Castle Church with a contribution about courageous faith and the integrative power of doubt. Prof. Dr. follows at 10:15 a.m. Gregor Thüsing, who addresses social justice in labor and social law in lecture hall V.
Diverse offers and perspectives
Johannes Schelhas from the Faculty of Catholic Theology will shed light on self-determined existence in Christian dogmatics from 12:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall VII. In lecture hall I from 12:15 p.m. private lecturer Dr. Nuschin Morakkabati-Spitz will speak about the health and ecological consequences of air pollution. A discussion by the Cluster of Excellence “Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies” begins at 11:15 a.m. in Lecture Hall XIII, in which three fellows present different perspectives on asymmetrical dependencies from different historical and current perspectives.
The event continues with further interesting lectures. Alissa Kacs from the “Bonn International Graduate School” will discuss the role of humans and artificial intelligence in Japanese companies at 11:15 a.m., while Prof. Dr. Jennifer Schober will talk about magnetic fields in the universe from 2:15 p.m. The topic of sustainable animal nutrition is also discussed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Hartinger will be treated in lecture hall XII from 12:15 p.m.
The program also includes cultural and sporting aspects. Members of the Kurfürstliches Hoftheater will present an adaptation of “Dracula” in lecture hall IX at 4:15 p.m., while the university sports department at the University of Bonn will be hosting the opening of an inclusive outdoor fitness course aimed at people with and without disabilities at 3:00 p.m.
A special focus on education and innovation
At the Dies academicus, Tibetology is also present all day in the cloakroom of the main building under the motto “Eat, Write and Pray”. The audience can take a guided tour on the topic “Making peace – but how?” at 4:15 p.m. in the Center for Historical Peace Research. The event in the series “The University of Excellence Invites” begins at 6:00 p.m. in Lecture Hall I and addresses the question: “Humans and animals. Humans as animals?” Prior registration is required.

For those interested in finding out more about career opportunities, comprehensive information will be provided on the Career Service Career Day from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Department of Geography. The program is rounded off by the Agricultural Career Day, which offers a comprehensive insight into career prospects in agricultural sciences from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the lecture hall center on the Poppelsdorf campus.
In addition, the Agricultural Career Day is accompanied by a public colloquium. During the Dies academicus, the Faculty of Agriculture changed its name to “Faculty of Agriculture, Nutrition and Engineering”. The open day promises not only academic insights, but also exciting perspectives on the future of the fields of study and life at the University of Bonn.
