Scientific talents fight for fame: FameLab 2025 in Bielefeld!

On May 20, 2025, Germany's scientific talents will be in the spotlight again. On June 24th at 7 p.m. the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle in Bielefeld will be the venue for the national competition “FameLab Germany”. The event is organized by the Knowledge workshop city Bielefeld organized, which acts as a national partner of the international FameLab competition. Ten outstanding participants from cities such as Berlin, Bremerhaven and Regensburg qualified to demonstrate their knowledge in a creative and informative presentation.

This year there is a special feature: the challenge will be held without representatives from Bielefeld. However, the region can be proud of last year's winner Julian Neugebauer, who won both the German competition and took an impressive second place in the international final. Neugebauer, who works as an assistant doctor in psychiatry at the Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel and conducts research at Bielefeld University, discussed innovative approaches to measuring stress through voice analysis in his lectures.

Combining creativity and precision

The form of the presentations at “FameLab Germany” is unique. Each participant only has three minutes to present their topic in a clear and entertaining way. Creative aids are permitted, but Power Point presentations are excluded. The topics range from the potential of Artificial intelligence in medicine to the science of meat substitutes to fantastical topics like “stardust with superpowers”.

The jury, consisting of scientific experts, evaluates the participants' performances, while the audience also awards their own prize. The best talents can look forward to taking part in the World Championships in the autumn, which will take place in the prestigious CERN in Geneva will take place, the largest center for basic physical research in the world.

The role of artificial intelligence in medicine

The competition topics also reflect current developments in research. Big data and artificial intelligence are central concepts that will shape future medicine. These technologies make it possible to efficiently analyze large amounts of data and thus make better decisions. Data networking also promotes the early detection of diseases and the individualization of therapies.

At a time when digitalization is leading to enormous amounts of data, it is crucial that science not only develops innovative ideas, but also communicates them in an understandable way. The “FameLab Germany” competition offers an excellent platform to spread enthusiasm for science and research beyond academic circles.
