Public lectures on sustainability and art at Saarland University!

Saarland University is opening a series of public lectures in the summer semester that address both exciting and current topics. The lecture series begins on Monday, April 28th, with the first lecture of the lecture series "Thomas Mann. Work, life, time, family", which will take place at 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Saarbrücken-Sankt-Johann town hall. Professor Rainer Kleinertz will speak on the topic of “Richard Wagner’s suffering and greatness”, including Thomas Mann’s celebratory lecture on the 50th anniversary of Richard Wagner’s death. This talk has been presented in cities such as Amsterdam, Munich, Brussels and Paris. After this lecture tour, the Mann couple never returned to Germany. All further information about the lectures can be found on the University website visible.

On Tuesday, April 29th, there will be a second lecture series under the motto “Spaceship Earth – Sustainability”, which begins at 5:15 p.m. Here Professor Karen Lienkamp and Professor Markus Gallei will give a lecture on “A closed CO2 cycle with polymers”. The lecture will take place in building C4 3, room 0.03, and will highlight the ecological challenges of plastics and approaches to reducing CO2. Another highlight of the same day is the event “Sustainability and Responsibility in Corporate Management and Business”, also at 6:15 p.m. Dr. Slawka Jordanow will talk about management approaches in the circular economy, presenting basic concepts and circular business models.

Diverse topics and reference to sustainability

At the same time, the Historical Institute's European lecture will take place on the same day at 6:15 p.m. Professor Kiran Patel will speak on “Failure as a resource: Europe’s international organizations in the 20th century and their afterlife”. Admission is free and the event is offered in lecture hall 0.03, building B3 2, on campus.

Online offers and child protection

For those interested who cannot be there, an online lecture series on the topic of “Child protection in theory and practice” will be offered on Friday, May 2nd. The event is held by the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry under the direction of Professor Eva Möhler and is accessible via Microsoft Teams.

The university's lectures reflect the growing interest in environmental sustainability and responsible business management. Especially the approach to the circular economy, which is also internationally supported by various studies such as those by Alcayaga and Hansen DeGruyter supported is becoming increasingly important. Reports show that the sustainable development of production and economic practices represent essential steps towards a greener future, requiring necessary adjustments in various sectors.

The university's comprehensive program offers insights into the diverse aspects of art, history and scientific research with a clear focus on current social challenges. If you would like to find out more about the individual events, you can find all the information on the university website.
