Saarland University: Free lectures in June on art, commerce and more!
At a time when the topic of sustainability is becoming increasingly important, Saarland University is offering a series of public lectures in the summer semester that deal with this central aspect of our future. These lectures are open to anyone interested and can be found in the university's events calendar. On Monday, June 9th, at 8:00 p.m., the third lecture of the Poetics Lectureship for Drama will take place in Division 4 of the Saarland State Theater. Armin Petras will explain the connection between literary terms and a possible theater text about Napoleon Bonaparte and his world. Entry is free.
There are two interesting lectures on the program on Tuesday, June 10th. Professor Bastian Popp will speak about “Sustainability in trade and its role in the circular economy” in the chemistry lecture hall building from 5:15 p.m. This lecture is not only available on site, but also online. Immediately afterwards, at 6:15 p.m., things continue in the Audimax building: Thilini Ranasinghe will present the aspects of “Human-Robot Collaboration for Socially Responsible Manufacturing and Logistics”.
Diverse perspectives on sustainability
Another highlight of the week will take place on Friday, June 13th, from 1:00 p.m., when the topic of “psychotraumatology” in connection with child protection will be discussed as part of an online lecture series led by Professor Eva Möhler.
On the same day, at 7:00 p.m., a science slam in the Filmhaus Saarbrücken enables an exciting combination of science and art, where alumni of the university present short lectures on scientific topics. The brains behind these innovative ideas work to sensitize listeners to current challenges.
With regard to the creative examination of the concept of sustainability, a poetry slam took place in the seminar “Economy and Sustainable Development”. Here participants presented texts they had written that illuminated the various facets of sustainability. The topic of “Sustainability and I” was explored by creative minds such as Lisa, Josephin and Bennet, who provide important criticism of current social issues. Lisa addresses responsibility for the earth, while Josephin points out the dark side of the fashion industry. Bennet warns of the exhaustion of resources and encourages rethinking.
Education for sustainability
The interest and active participation of young people are crucial for the transformation of society towards sustainability. According to a report by the Federal Environment Agency, it is important that children and young people are included in the concepts and methods of environmental education programs. The effectiveness of environmental education projects depends heavily on the specific conditions under which they are carried out, particularly in informal and extracurricular contexts.
The results of the environmental education projects show that comprehensive involvement of learners in the design and implementation is crucial in order to achieve the desired educational effect. The collected voices and creative thoughts of the participants in the poetry slam are an example of how such an integration can happen and how important it is for the young generation to address these topics. The commitment will also be clearly visible at Saarland University in the coming events, where the focus is on the connection between theory and practice.
