Dresden researchers launch groundbreaking platform for digital health!
On October 1, 2025, the Medical Informatics Hub in Saxony (MiHUBx) knowledge platform at the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) was officially announced. This novel platform, designed by researchers Caroline Glathe and Sophia Grummt, aims to increase digital health literacy among both patients and medical professionals. MiHUBx is the only platform in German-speaking countries that covers such a comprehensive range of topics and was funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
The content of the platform is accessible free of charge and offers a wide range of information in two main areas: “Knowledge – Patients” and “Knowledge – Doctors”. The former includes basic knowledge about the digitalization of the healthcare system, assistance in evaluating health information and recommendations for trustworthy healthcare portals. Free further training courses on topics such as digital health and artificial intelligence are also provided. In the “Knowledge – Medical Professionals” area, specialists can find specific information on digitalization in the healthcare system as well as offers for professional qualifications and health research.
Technological advances in healthcare
Digitalization is currently revolutionizing the healthcare system and opening up numerous possibilities. According to the Federal Ministry of Health [bundesgesundheitsministerium.de], it enables faster communication, efficient administrative processes and the abolition of outdated means of communication such as fax machines. The systematic evaluation of health data also promises improved detection of diseases and more individualized therapies.
It is particularly useful to use mobile applications that allow patients to take a more active role in the treatment process and strengthen their health literacy. Digitalization thus meets the challenges of an aging society and the need to finance medical innovations and guarantee good care in structurally weak rural areas.
Digitization hubs and future perspectives
MiHUBx is one of six funded digital health progress hubs in Germany. These hubs have the common goal of advancing digitalization in healthcare and making the existing data usable for both research and practical application. There is an urgent need to strengthen digital health literacy, as Prof. Esther Troost emphasizes, in order to ensure future-oriented medical care.
Health data sharing plays a critical role in these efforts. A current analysis by [bpb.de] shows that digital health applications are increasingly finding their way into the German healthcare system. The need for laws to accelerate digitalization, which has been called for for a long time, is also addressed. The variety of digital health applications is growing, and with it the demands on the medical community and patients.
