Free further education: TUCacademy starts new courses for students!
From now on, students at the Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) can take advantage of free qualification offers from the TUCacademy. This initiative is aimed at learners who are looking for a career-specific supplement or practical further training and was financed with funds from the European Social Fund and the Free State of Saxony. In cooperation with regional companies and schools, innovative learning formats are offered that are tailored to various subject areas.
The available courses include “Deep Learning for Practitioners”, led by Prof. Dr. Fred Hamker from Intenta GmbH, who handles practical projects on self-supervised learning and transformer architectures. Another course, “Material selection in the digital age,” is taught by Prof. Dr. Martin Wagner from thyssenkrupp Dynamic Components and deals with modern methods for material selection.

The TUCacademy offers a variety of opportunities to expand knowledge and skills and respond to the needs of the digital age. This is also reflected in the European context, as on June 16, 2022, the Council of the European Union adopted a recommendation on a European approach to micro-certificates aimed at promoting lifelong learning and employability. These micro-certificates represent the learning outcomes of short-term educational offerings such as courses or training and offer a flexible opportunity for personal and professional development.
European approach to micro-certificates
The European approach to micro-certificates has the potential to make education accessible to a wide range of groups, particularly including disadvantaged and vulnerable people. There is great demand for reliable, transparent and recognized micro-certificates that help acquire knowledge and skills in line with the changing labor market.
The Council's recommendations emphasize the need for common standards of quality and portability to realize the full potential of micro-credentials. They are intended to help create trust in such offers and promote high-quality and transparent certifications. To support this, the European Commission will implement dialogue-oriented actions and promote the use of existing EU instruments for micro-certificates.
