Daariimaa Chuluunbaatar, a student at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), has been enriching Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) since May 2025 as part of the “Saxon Student Mobility Program”. Chuluunbaatar completed her bachelor's degree in computer hardware engineering at MUST in 2014 and has been working intensively in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) since 2023. Her current research work at Chemnitz University of Technology focuses on machine learning and image processing, developing a mobile application to detect skin and lung cancer.

Chuluunbaatar describes her stay in Chemnitz as very positive and emphasizes the safety of the city and its green surroundings. She also enjoys the friendly treatment of the residents and the well-developed local transport. They are particularly impressed by the university's research laboratories and extensive library. A particular highlight was how many of the other students already showed interest in Mongolia, which promoted intercultural exchange.

Perspectives and plans

After her stay, Chuluunbaatar plans to complete and defend her master's degree in Mongolia. Her long-term goal is to return to Chemnitz University of Technology to do her doctorate and pass on the knowledge she has acquired to students in Mongolia. These ambitions demonstrate the drive and commitment that Chuluunbaatar invests in her academic and professional careers.

The “Saxon Student Mobility Program” is an important initiative that offers students from all Saxon universities the opportunity to study abroad. Applications are possible from the 1st semester and only exchange students can apply for this funding. The program allows for both long-term and short-term stays in countries such as Taiwan and India. Students can take both research and specialist courses to expand their academic qualifications.

Funding opportunities and conditions of participation

The funding amount for long-term stays is €850 per month. Short-term stays are funded daily with €79 for the first 14 days and €56 from the 15th day. There are also country-specific travel allowances for India and Taiwan. There are additional support options for students with special needs or financial hurdles.

The mobility campaign supports the physical and mixed mobility of students in all degree programs, from bachelor's to master's to doctorate. It aims to promote employability, strengthen social inclusion and support the personal development of participants. These measures are essential for creating an international educational space that is enriched by diverse perspectives and intercultural exchange. Universities are required to promote environmentally friendly and digital skills to ensure sustainable mobility.
