Sustainability Week at TU Dresden: Ideas for a green future!

The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) is planning a comprehensive sustainability week that will take place from June 16 to 23, 2025. At a time when climate change and its effects are more in the focus of society than ever, the motto of the week was entitled “DO it NOW!” formulated. This event is aimed at students and employees of the TU as well as the broader urban society. The aim is to actively work on the topics of environmental, social and economic sustainability and put them into practice.

The program includes a variety of program items that point to the relevance and urgency of the topic. Under the motto “Climate Week,” organizers have put together a varied offering that includes workshops, lectures and interactive formats.

Diverse program items

A highlight of the week will be the **Sustainability Snack for Breakfast**, which will take place on June 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Those interested can enjoy a free breakfast on the meadow behind the HSZ (in bad weather in FOE/101) and talk to various actors from areas such as education, nutrition and sustainability. Participating organizations such as Foodsharing, arche noVa e.V., the Nutrition Council and many more are planned. A special focus is on the smoothie wheel, where participants can make their own drinks.

On June 19th the **real laboratory tdCON** will be held in room POT/168. This workshop deals with the development of strategies for greenhouse gas neutrality in the key areas of electricity consumption, thermal energy, business trips and everyday mobility. The topics include, among other things, data collection and strategies for CO2 reduction.

The **Climate Protection and Sustainability Ideas Workshop** will take place on June 23rd, which is an interactive workshop. The challenges and opportunities of climate protection should be discussed here in order to develop concrete measures for the TUD. This is expected to happen in room POT/013.

Excursions and other event offerings

A special offer are the **excursions**, which start on June 16th at 5:30 p.m. Participants can choose between different stations, including the TU Dresden's BildungsAcker and the SLUB's community garden, where they can gain practical experience. These excursions are an excellent opportunity to gain practical insights into the topics of the environment and sustainability.

TUD has been participating in the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) since 2003 and will be designing this week as part of its commitment to sustainable development. The closing event on June 28th will also take place on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of environmental management. Here, Prof. Anders Levermann from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research will give a lecture on the topic “The folding of the world: a free path out of the climate crisis and the growth dilemma” in the Schönfeld lecture hall.

The three-pillar model of sustainability, which takes ecological, economic and social aspects into account, provides a framework for the week's discussions and strategies. It illustrates how important it is to balance all three dimensions and to implement sustainable practices not just at one level, but at all levels.

Further information can be found on the TUD website, which also includes a link to register for the individual events. Anyone interested can contact the Green Office at TU Dresden. Alexandra Seifert is available to answer any questions at +49 351 463-33037.

For TUD, this Sustainability Week will be an important step towards becoming a sustainable and environmentally conscious institution that puts both education and networking at the service of sustainability.
