New continuing education concept at Chemnitz University of Technology: Focus on course development!

Chemnitz University of Technology is expanding its continuing education offerings and, from spring 2026, will be offering a new program for employees who are involved in the development of study programs. This offer is aimed particularly at employees in faculties and in the Center for Teacher Training and Educational Research. How tu-chemnitz.de reports, the “Competence-oriented course design” program is intended to help increase professional skills in course development.

A central aim of the offer is to promote the exchange between theory and practice. Workshops and individual work phases invite participants to actively participate and contribute their own ideas and experiences. The further training is led by Ulrike Rada from the university didactics department and Maik Schönherr from the student success management department, both of whom are experts in the subject area.

Contents of the further training

The program is divided into three modules:

  • Modul 1: Grundlagen der Kompetenzorientierung, Formulierung von Qualifikationszielen, studierendenzentrierte Lehrgestaltung (3 Arbeitsstunden).
  • Modul 2: Überblick über Prozessgestaltung, Best-Practice-Beispiele und TU-interne Abläufe der Studiengangentwicklung (6 Arbeitsstunden).
  • Modul 3: Vertiefte Arbeit am eigenen Studiengang, inklusive Bedarfserhebung und Dokumentenerstellung (3 Arbeitsstunden).

The focus of the further training includes, among other things, the introduction to university didactic principles, the implementation of needs analyzes and the promotion of interdisciplinary cooperation and communication. The combination of specialist input, practice-oriented work and exchange formats is intended to enable participants to respond comprehensively to the requirements of course development.

One aspect that also contributes to the efficiency of course development is the accreditation procedures, which are a central component of quality management in university teaching. hs-duesseldorf.de emphasizes that course development is a continuous process that receives external impulses from these procedures. The aim of this development is to create well-structured study programs with clearly defined goals.

Dates and registration

The dates for the further training are set for February 24th, March 3rd and March 10th, 2026. Registration is now possible via the Opal learning management system. For more information, interested parties can contact Ulrike Rada directly by phone at +49 371 531-38538 or by email at ulrike.rada@rektor.tu-chemnitz.de.

In addition to continuing education, the Center for Teaching and Continuing Education at the University of Stuttgart offers through its zlw working papers various materials and recommendations that support universities in quality management and the development of study programs. These works contain practical concepts that aim to continually improve the quality of teaching.

In view of the challenges of recent years, such as the adjustments to digital teaching offerings during the pandemic, the new programs at universities illustrate the constant revision and adaptation of teaching concepts. With its initiative, Chemnitz University of Technology shows that it wants to actively shape the future of higher education.
