TUCsportfest in Chemnitz: record participation and exciting competitions!

This year's TUCsportfest took place on June 4, 2025 on the Reichenhainer Straße campus of Chemnitz University of Technology, with a record participation of 44 teams. This represents the highest number of participating teams in the history of this event. The sports festival was organized by the Center for Sport and Health Promotion (ZfSG) at Chemnitz University of Technology, under the direction of Dr. Katrin Karger. The motto of the event was “Let’s fair play TUCgether!” and offered participants the opportunity to compete in a total of eleven disciplines.

The disciplines at the TUCsportfest included running A, cricket, disc golf and beer pong as well as the newly introduced tag rugby. The popular sports Klingelball and the Lauf-KulTour also took place in the sports hall. The participants were particularly creative with their costumes, which won prizes. The “The Short” team secured victory with an impressive Smurfs outfit. As part of a fun games competition, the team “LE3D” took first place, followed by “Hufa-saur” and the “Vikings”.

Competitions and highlights

Another highlight of the sports festival was the five-a-side football game, where university employees and students met. The game ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw, with the student team ultimately winning on penalties. The event was actively supported by numerous partners, including the university sports community, AOK PLUS, Barmer, the Techniker Krankenkasse, the student council and the sports science department.

Inclusion and health sports

Health Day took place parallel to the TUCsportfest. During this event, various activities such as balance tests, skill games and body composition analysis were offered. The integration of inclusion in sport is playing an increasingly important role, as many sports offerings for people with disabilities are anchored in sports clubs. The Thuringia State Sports Association is actively committed to promoting inclusion in sport and offers comprehensive advice on inclusive sport and accessibility.

The principles of inclusion, which emphasize the self-determined and equal participation of all people, regardless of impairments, are an integral part of the sports offering in Thuringia. Initiatives such as Thüringer Sporthilfe also support athletes with disabilities and expand opportunities in competitive sports. The development of Paralympic sport is also receiving attention, with disabled sports associations playing a key role.

Events such as the TUCsportfest and Health Day not only promote fun in exercise, but also increase awareness of health and inclusion issues. These events help promote an inclusive sports culture that is accessible to both people with and without disabilities.
