TUCtag 2025: A day full of discoveries at Chemnitz University of Technology!

On May 10, 2025, the Chemnitz University of Technology experienced an impressive event with the TUCtag on the Reichenhainer Straße campus. With over 3,000 guests, the event was a great success. The organizing team designed the day with over 100 program offerings prepared by students and faculty. This diversity included information for prospective students, exciting lectures and interactive participatory activities.

The TUC day started at 2 p.m. and lasted until midnight. The event was aimed at students, prospective students, Bachelor graduates and the general public. During the day, all eight faculties and the Center for Teacher Training presented their course offerings, including over 110 different bachelor's and master's degree programs. A highlight was the new “Human-Environmental Engineering” course of study.

Alumni meetings and honors

Another important part of the TUCtag was the 12th alumni meeting. Rector Prof. Dr. Gerd Strohmeier ceremoniously handed over 109 honorary diplomas to around 270 graduates, including two diamond, 100 gold and seven silver diplomas. The former students took the opportunity to find out about current research projects and take part in guided tours of the library and the university archive.

In addition to the academic presentations, there were also numerous leisure activities on offer. The Chemnitz Children's University focused on the topic “Space Tour – a space flight from Chemnitz to the Black Hole”. Dirk Schlesier from the Planetarium Halle (Saale) impressed over 600 listeners with his lecture.

Interactive experiences and hands-on activities

There was an activity area on the campus square with exciting experiments and a paper airplane competition. The “Technology Experience World”, which included over 50 hands-on stations, attracted many visitors. The “TUCelino” production was particularly popular, with children and young people being able to do it themselves.

In addition to the interactive world of experiences, the Long Night of Science took place, which was another crowd puller with laboratory experiments and tours of the campus. An experimental lecture on chemical miracles rounded off the program and offered exciting insights into the world of chemistry.

Catering was provided by a wide range of food and drinks in the cafeteria, which was open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The organizing team recognized the great interest of the visitors as the key to success and highlighted it in a thank you to the TUC family.

The event not only strengthened the academic community, but also created numerous new contacts and inspiration for the future.

Further information about offers and program items is available on the Chemnitz University of Technology website at www.tu-chemnitz.de/tuctag. In particular, the additional activities such as drone demonstrations, escape room mathematics and the light show “Let’s glow #TUCgether!” illustrate the creative power of the university. The TUCtag impressively demonstrated how science and education can be made alive and tangible.
