TUD honors outstanding personalities: A celebration of excellence!
On May 22, 2025 the Dresden University of Technology (TUD) Numerous personalities who have distinguished themselves through remarkable achievements in science and society are honored in the Dülfer Hall. In her speech, Rector Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger acknowledged the importance of community and individual commitment to academic excellence.
An outstanding member of this group is Christiane Schaufler-Münch, who was made an honorary citizen of the TUD. Her commitment through THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION includes the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden and the Schaufler Professorship for Refrigeration, Cryo and Compressor Technology. She also influenced the financing of Germany scholarships and supported the new building of the university school.
Awards for achievements in science
Other honors include the awarding of honorary senatorship to Prof. Dr. Michael Albrecht. He was honored for his services to the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Faculty and Dresden University Medicine. Thanks to his work, the TUD's visibility in the areas of cancer research, medical informatics and medical education was significantly increased.
The TUD Medal of Honor went to two prominent scientists: Prof. Dr. Gerhard Ehninger was honored for his achievements in hematology and his social commitment, while Prof. Dr. Andreas Roloff was honored for his services to the forest botanical garden in Tharandt and his educational work.
Honors for special contributions
The TUD Badge of Honor was awarded to several personalities who made significant contributions in their respective fields. These include:
- Prof. Dr. Gianaurelio Cuniberti, für seine Beiträge zur Materialforschung und zu strategischen Forschungsnetzwerken.
- GenderConceptGroup (Prof.in Dr. Maria Häusl, Dr. Monika Valtink, Prof.in Cornelia Breitkopf), für ihr Engagement in der Geschlechterforschung.
- Prof. Dr. Christoph Haberstroh für Pionierleistungen in der Kryo- und Kältetechnik.
- Dipl.-Ing. Christoph Peukert, für seine Nachwuchsförderung im MINT-Bereich und Wissenschaftskommunikation.
- Fay Uhlmann, für ihr studentisches Engagement in den Bereichen Vielfalt, Gleichstellung und Hochschulpolitik.
- Dipl.-Ing. Dirk Weiß, für seine Beiträge zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung und digitalen Transformation der Bauklimatik.
- Dipl.-Soziol. Anja Wiede, für ihr Engagement in der Antidiskriminierungsarbeit und für eine inklusive Universitätskultur.

Neuromorphic engineering and awards
In addition, the TUD will highlight the call for the 2025 Misha Mahowald Prize (MMP) and the 2025 Mahowald Early Career Award (MECA). The MMP is awarded for outstanding research in neuromorphic engineering and is endowed with USD 10,000. The submission deadline is October 31, 2024 at 23:59 UTC.
