Future of psychotherapy: panel discussion at the Lübeck campus!

On October 21, 2025 at 6 p.m. a panel discussion on the “Future of Psychotherapy” will take place in the Audimax on the Lübeck campus. This event, organized by the University of Lübeck is organized, aims to discuss the special features and location-specific advantages of psychotherapy training in Lübeck. The opportunities and risks of new training paths are also discussed.

The central topics of the discussion include the framework conditions for studying psychology and developments in psychotherapeutic work on campus. The event offers a platform for those involved in the training and their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of the professional environment of psychotherapy.

Composition of the expert committee

The panel is top-class. Among the participants are Prof. Dr. Ines Wilhelm-Groch, who acts as course director for the new clinical master's degree and is an experienced psychotherapy researcher. Also Prof. Dr. Frieder Paulus from the University of Lübeck will take part in the discussion and contribute his expertise in computational psychiatry.

Other prominent speakers include Prof. Dr. Helge Braun, a representative of the university's executive board, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Münte, who will bring the psychiatric perspective and also act as contact person for the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH). The child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Manuel Munz from ZiP Kiel will also be present, as will Dr. Clemens Veltrup, chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Psychotherapists. The perspective of the trainees is represented by Puya Sattarzadeh, the PiA spokesman, while the student representatives are represented by Emma Peplies and Emilia Greif.

Goals of the discussion

The aim of the panel discussion is to find solutions to location-specific obstacles and to secure the future direction of psychotherapy training in Lübeck. The close connection between research and teaching on the Lübeck campus is seen as particularly advantageous.

In addition to this event, the University of Lübeck offers a master's degree program in clinical psychology and psychotherapy that prepares students for the comprehensive requirements of future psychotherapists. Over four semesters, students can acquire a total of 120 ECTS points, spread over various compulsory modules that cover essential topics such as psychological diagnostics and applied psychotherapy. These modules also include, among other things, the review of specific disorder and procedural theories and a deep insight into psychotherapy research. The course emphasizes practical training in which self-reflection also plays a role in psychotherapeutic action.
