Education for all seniors: Discover the guest auditorium course in Vechta!
The collaboration between the University of Vechta and the self-designed innovation team takes a significant turn with the continuation of their joint series of events for the 60 Plus generation. This initiative aims to bring people aged 60 and older closer to the world of science and education and give them the opportunity to explore guest listening studies. The upcoming dates are carefully planned and promise interesting insights into university life.
The first event will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the SelbstgestALTER-Treff at Münsterstraße 21. Here, interested parties are introduced to the University of Vechta. On September 9, 2025, at 4 p.m., there will be an event at the University of Vechta that will enable experience reports and exchanges with students from the 60+ generation. The location at Driverstrasse 23 was selected for this purpose. Another highlight will be exploring the library and the cafeteria on September 15th or 18th, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. This will take place at Driverstraße 26.
Promote education and integration
The program in this series includes an introduction to guest auditor studies, a tour of the campus and a visit to the university library and cafeteria. It is intended not only to emphasize the importance of education and lifelong learning, but also to promote the integration of the older generation into the university community and to provide a platform for exchange and networking. Those interested can contact: Isabell Bergmann Register, which can also be reached via WhatsApp on the telephone numbers 04441 97 77 902 and 0171 20 32 573.
The University of Vechta offers a wealth of information for those who would like to experience guest listening studies more intensively. Participants can take up to 10 semester hours per week (SWS) per semester, whereby there are usually 5 courses of 2 SWS each to choose from. The fees for this are staggered: Anyone who takes up to 4 semester hours pays 50 euros; for 5 to 10 semester hours, 75 euros are due. In cases of financial hardship, it is possible to apply for a fee waiver.
Successful tradition of guest auditor studies
Auditorium studies at the University of Vechta have a long tradition. It was launched 40 years ago and has since established itself as an integral part of university life. At the beginning, around 144 guest students took part in around 60 courses. Today there are around 500 guest students per semester and over 600 courses per semester. This development underlines the importance of the program, which enables people without a university entrance qualification to participate in academic education.
In the summer semester of 2023, the 40th birthday of the guest auditor program was honored with an anniversary celebration that took place on April 18 and attracted almost 180 guests from politics and the university. Federal Minister Falko Mohrs and University President Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder gave greetings, and Dr. Christiane Brokmann-Nooren spoke about the challenges and successes of the past four decades. A panel discussion discussed guest auditor studies as an important access to the university.

The series of events and the guest listening studies are not only an opportunity for the 60 Plus generation to further their education, but also a valuable opportunity to network in a dynamic environment and to actively participate in the life of the university.
