Night of the Libraries: Experience stories, games and a slam!
On Friday, April 4, 2025, the first nationwide “Night of Libraries” took place, in which the Vechta University Library took part with a comprehensive program for all age groups. The event started at 3 p.m. under the motto "Know. Share. Discover." and offered visitors a variety of activities, from children's activities to a book flea market. A gaming room and tours of the permanent exhibition about the Vechta poet Rolf Dieter Brinkmann were also on the program. This reports mynewsdesk.
The highlight of the night was the Library Slam, which was led by the moderators Peter Havers and Benedikt Feldhaus, known for the “Bleib Laut!” initiative. Here, seven participants had the opportunity to present their personal stories in the context of libraries after working on their texts in workshops. The Library Slam was not only intended to promote creative exchange, but also to emphasize the importance of the library as a social meeting place, as Benedikt Feldhaus emphasized. clpvecnews adds that the event invites people to experience libraries in a new way.
An offer for all generations

Meanwhile, adults were able to browse through the book flea market and enjoy the tour of Rolf Dieter Brinkmann. Prof. Dr. Markus Fauser explained important aspects of Brinkmann's life during the tour. In keeping with the times, a special exhibition on Brinkmann's 85th birthday and the 50th anniversary of his death took place on April 14th in the Vechta town hall.
As part of the Library Slam, Jana was awarded the audience prize for her authentic contribution about her shared apartment, while Kasimir received the jury prize for his emotional text. The positive response led to announcements about the continuation of the format in the future. Library director Dr. Karolin Bubke emphasized that the library, as a “third place,” offers services and offers for all interested parties.
