Concert highlight: Musical masterpieces and great poets combined!

A special concert celebrating the fascinating connection between literature and music will take place on July 14, 2025. Presented under the title “Club of Great Poets”. Collegium Musicum a varied program that includes both literary and musical masterpieces.

Conductor Michael Sekulla highlights the diversity of the works being performed. One of the most famous pieces is the “Wilhelm Tell” overture by Gioachino Rossini, which is based on Friedrich Schiller’s drama. Felix Mendelssohn's cantata “The First Walpurgis Night”, which is based on a ballad by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, will also be performed. The program also includes Brahms’ “Schicksalslied”, inspired by Friedrich Hölderlin, and Hugo Wolf’s “Der Feuerreiter” based on Eduard Mörike.

Musical highlights

Another highlight is the witch choir from Verdi's opera “Macbeth”, which is based on a play by William Shakespeare. Also on the program is Paul Dukas’ symphonic poem “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” which is also derived from Goethe’s work. The combination of these outstanding compositions gives the audience an impressive insight into the interactions between music and literature.

The concert will be performed on two dates: Saturday, July 19th at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 20th at 4 p.m. The venue is the auditorium of the New University at Grabengasse 3. Tickets are available at a price of 19 euros and a reduced price of 7 euros. Classical composers

The works presented in the concert come from important composers who have significantly influenced the development of classical music. Loud Classic radio Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the most performed composers in 2023, known for masterpieces such as “The Magic Flute” and “Little Night Music”. Marking the transition from classical to romantic, Ludwig van Beethoven is famous for his nine symphonies, particularly the Fifth and Ninth.

Johann Sebastian Bach is considered one of the greatest composers in music history, known for his “Brandenburg Concertos” and the “St. Matthew Passion”. Other outstanding composers include Antonio Vivaldi, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Richard Wagner, whose works still occupy a central place in the classical music repertoire today.

The influences of these great masters can be felt in the pieces performed on July 19th and 20th, which are not only musically stunning, but also delve deeply into the literary tradition. The “Great Poets Club” promises an unforgettable experience for lovers of music and literature.
