Future of teacher training: Discussion at the University of Passau on July 17th!
On July 17, 2025, a panel discussion on the further development of teacher training in Bavaria will take place at the University of Passau. Organized by the Center for Teacher Training and Didactics at the University of Passau (ZLF), the event aims to discuss the recommendations of a report that deals with teacher training in the Free State. This panel discussion begins at 2 p.m. in the Innsteg auditorium, room ISA007, Innstrasse 23, and is aimed at the interested public and media representatives.
The report entitled “Teacher training for the 21st century: Attractiveness and quality through professional relevance and scientific orientation” comprises 58 pages and contains a total of 13 concrete recommendations for improving teacher training. The aim of the discussion is to develop a common perspective on the feasibility of these recommendations. Representatives from all Bavarian centers for teacher training take part in the event to discuss future steps together. This was preceded by a university-wide discussion forum at the University of Passau, which has already developed an initial impression of the content of the report.
Organizational details and registration options
The panel discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Markus Pissarek, who works at the Chair of Didactics of German Language and Literature and sits on the board of the ZLF. Registration for the event is required by July 14, 2025 at the latest. Those interested have the opportunity to participate either in person or via Zoom. The link for online participation will be sent by email before the event.
Employees Nicola Jacobi and Katrina Jordan are available to answer any questions. They can be reached on +49 851 509-1434, -1439 or by email at kommunikation@uni-passau.de. The discussion not only contributes to improving teacher training, but is also part of a comprehensive examination of the entire educational structures in Bavaria.
Context for teacher training in Bavaria
The need for a reform of teacher training in Bavaria is undisputed. According to the KMK framework agreement, numerous credit points in educational sciences, subject didactics and practical school studies are required as part of school training. For example, at least 80 ECTS points must be acquired for the vocational subject. Internships also play an essential role in training, although credit points for internships are only recognized if they are accompanied by the university. This particularly applies to orientation and company internships, which are an integral part of the training process.
In summary, the panel discussion in Passau is about an urgently needed change in teacher training, which is intended to sustainably improve both the attractiveness and quality of training. The comprehensive participation of all stakeholders is a step in the right direction to successfully master the challenges in the education system.
