Archeology meets virtual reality: discovery tour in the Museu in Borriana!

On August 4, 2025, the archaeological expedition at the Museu Arqueològic de Borriana will enter its next round. The students and scientists continue their work and devote themselves to analyzing urns and piecing together ceramic shards. In the past few days, researchers have been able to discover more well-preserved bones in the urns, which promises further exciting insights into the past. Particularly noteworthy is the visit from the Valencian television station À Punt, which accompanies the team's work on film and gives some group members the opportunity to share their impressions in interviews.

In addition, the virtual reality application of the Archeopills project is used, which enables those involved to work with virtual ash urns and uncover found objects. This innovative VR application stands out for its high level of detail and conveys the complex subject of archeology in a playful way.

Insights into the exhibition

After a relaxing lunch break in the park, which also offers space for a short nap, we continue in the afternoon with a viewing of original finds. These include perfume bottles, jewelry, coins and weapons discovered during the excavations. Participants will be guided through the exhibition by curator Yaiza Capella Broch, who will clearly convey the history of the Iberian Peninsula from the Paleolithic period to Al-Andalus.

The Museu Arqueològic attracts the interest of visitors with its innovative approaches, despite limited resources. These include the use of digital tools and modern VR technology. A Custom Chat.GPT window allows museum guests to ask questions in different languages, increasing interactivity and accessibility.

Collaboration with Archaeologica

The expedition at the Museu Arqueològic also benefits from the extensive experience of the MPG group, the subsidiary of Archaeologica, which specializes in historical and archaeological 3D reconstructions as well as VR and AR applications. With over 25 years of experience in developing historical game assets, the company helps museums and film producers create interactive digital experiences.

Current Archaeologica projects include the digital reconstruction of the Disibodenberg Monastery and the development of the VR app “Ancient Meta VR Journey”. The latter offers users the opportunity to virtually explore and experience historical places and artifacts. Archaeologica's expertise is also evident in the creation of 3D visualizations and CGI animations as well as in the development of interactive applications.

At the end of the expedition, participants receive a souvenir in the form of a bag containing books, a hat with the museum logo and other souvenirs. The farewell takes place with a heartfelt thank you and the exclamation “hasta la próxima”, which underlines the anticipation of future joint ventures.
