German short films at the Student Oscars: Babelsberg shines!

The Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University once again has reason to be happy, as two of its short films are in the running for the renowned Student Academy Awards®, also known as the Student Oscars. In today's announcement of the nominations by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, it became clear that the renowned university makes a significant contribution to German film culture.

The short film was awarded in the Animation category (International Film Schools). LOVE ME, FEAR ME nominated by Veronica Solomon. Solomon, born in Romania in 1980, made this film as her bachelor's degree film. The film addresses the profound question: “How far would you go to be loved?” The use of classic clay animation creates a metaphor for the roles and forms that people take on and focuses on the price of acceptance.

Nominations and backgrounds

Another notable film is RUMORS, which was nominated in the new Alternative/Experimental (Domestic and International Film Schools) category. This nine-minute film comes from Nicole Aebersold, a native of Bern who was trained as a decoration designer and has been studying animation at the Babelsberg Film University since 2012. Both nominations demonstrate the diversity and creative potential that is encouraged at this institution.

The awards ceremony will take place on October 17th at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. This event celebrates the excellence of young filmmakers from around the world and provides a platform to reward innovative storytelling in the film industry.

The role of the Babelsberg Film University

The Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University is the oldest state art and film university in Germany and has been offering a wide range of film courses since 1954, including animation, film and television production and directing.
