Big sporting event in Cologne: Alumni Battle promises fun and competition!
The first ASS Alumni Battle took place on May 10, 2025 in the athletics stadium of the German Sport University Cologne. The event was organized by the alumni association “Alumni Sportmedien Sportmanagement” (ass). The aim of the event was to combine sporting ambition with fun and community interaction.
A total of 25 teams of four people each took part in the competition. The challenges included seven different challenges that tested throwing skills, reaction speed and other sports skills. Participant groups were made up of former students, current fellow students and Spoho lecturers.
Prices and supporting program
Attractive prizes were provided by partners of the alumni association for the three best-placed teams. The event ended with a get-together where participants were able to relax and reflect on the day with cool drinks, delicious burger variations and music. An exciting part of the program was a campus tour led by Dr. Ansgar Molzberger, a historian from Spoho, was led. This tour offered interesting insights into the history and development of the sports university.
In addition to this event, the alumni association offers numerous other activities. An event called Local Insights will take place in Euskirchen on July 8, 2025, where Janis Rehs invites participants to the Euskirchen thermal baths. A workshop entitled “Negotiating a starting salary – staying calm under pressure” will also be offered on June 23, 2025 at the DSHS Cologne to give students and young professionals valuable tips.
Further funding opportunities and awards
The ASS Alumni Association has announced that it will award two scholarships for the European Association for Sport Management (EASM) student seminar, which will take place in Budapest from August 30th to September 6th, 2025. The application deadline for this is May 25, 2025. Catrin Müller was also voted “ASS Alumni of the Year” after successfully completing her studies in 2010.
For alumni who want to expand their professional networks, the association offers the DOPPEL-(P)ASS mentoring program and is looking for DSHS graduates with several years of professional experience. Team tickets are also available for the ASS Homecoming 2025 on May 10, 2025, where the big Alumni Battle will take place, similar to this year's event.
The alumni portal also brings together a variety of activities and educational offerings that benefit German organizations. These include digital formats such as virtual coffee breaks, lab talks, seminars and online lectures, which promote the exchange and acquisition of new knowledge. Current online events are always available and offer alumni the opportunity to network and learn.
The first ASS Alumni Battle not only provided sporting challenges, but also the exchange and strengthening of the alumni community.
